Fifteen volunteers (15) joined a community clean-up drive in Purok 3, Barangay Saraet in Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental on March 7, 2026, as part of Project KASIKAS, an initiative aimed at promoting environmental awareness and encouraging residents to help protect and preserve their surroundings.
The activity started at 6:30am with a short orientation on safety, proper waste disposal, and the environmental impact of improper trash management.
Project KASIKAS program coordinator John Bel Eseller led the briefing and reminded participants about the importance of teamwork throughout the clean-up effort.
After the orientation, volunteers spread out across different areas of Purok 3 to collect waste and improve the overall cleanliness of the community, which highlights the value of volunteerism and shared responsibility in maintaining a healthy environment.
For many participants, the initiative also served as a learning experience.
Volunteer Kenneth Gimena said the clean-up drive encouraged him to become more conscious about environmental protection.
“Being part of the Project KASIKAS clean-up drive inspired me to become more environmentally conscious. It encouraged me to continue supporting activities that help protect nature and to motivate others to do the same,” Gimena said.
Organizers said the success of the activity reflects the growing commitment of residents of Barangay Saraet to environmental stewardship.
