In a strong demonstration of volunteerism and community collaboration, the Hope Builders Organization Negros Island Inc. (HBONI) spearheaded a Dagyaw community service activity at Don Benito Lopez Elementary School (DBLES) in Isabela, Negros Occidental, on May 31, 2026, in preparation for the opening of classes on June 8.
The activity gathered 15 Hope Builders alongside personnel from the 94th Infantry Battalion, employees of the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Isabela, representatives from the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), and other community volunteers. Together, they conducted a school clean-up drive and campus improvement activities aimed at creating a safer, cleaner, and more conducive learning environment for students returning to school.
The Dagyaw highlighted the power of collective action as volunteers worked hand in hand to prepare the school facilities for the incoming academic year. The initiative forms part of HBONI’s continuing commitment to promoting education, community engagement, and shared responsibility in nation-building.
A significant highlight of the event was the turnover ceremony of the newly constructed makeshift classrooms, which will provide additional learning spaces for students of Don Benito Lopez Elementary School. The ceremony was led by Hon. Miguel Yulo, Municipal Mayor of Isabela, together with members of the Sangguniang Bayan and other local officials.
The turnover of the makeshift classrooms marks an important step in addressing the school’s infrastructure needs and ensuring that learners have access to adequate educational facilities as they begin the new school year.
Adding to the day’s accomplishments, 150 sets of school supplies donated by the Central Philippinez State University – Supremem Student Government were formally turned over to Don Benito Lopez Elementary School through HBONI. The donation is expected to benefit numerous learners by providing them with essential educational materials for the upcoming school year.
School officials expressed their gratitude to all partners and volunteers who contributed their time, resources, and efforts to support the school community. The successful conduct of the Dagyaw reflects the impact of collaboration among government agencies, educational institutions, civil society organizations, and community volunteers in advancing quality education and community development.
Through initiatives such as this, HBONI continues to champion volunteerism and foster partnerships that create meaningful and lasting change in communities across Negros Occidental.
