KABANKALAN CITY, Negros Occidental — Twenty-five Hope Builders and volunteers of Hope Builders Organization Negros Island Inc. (HBONI) gathered for a learning session, Kaangtanan, on February 22, 2026, at HBONI Balay Paglaum, aimed at strengthening communication skills through the responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI).
The session focused on how AI tools can support community initiatives by improving the way organizations craft messages, share stories, and engage the public through digital platforms. Participants explored practical applications of AI in developing clear, impactful, and audience-centered communications while maintaining authenticity and ethical standards.
As part of the workshop, attendees were divided into groups and tasked to formulate social media captions using two approaches: traditional manual writing based on their own knowledge and experience, and AI-assisted writing through prompt-based integration. The activity allowed participants to compare efficiency, creativity, and clarity between human-crafted and AI-supported outputs, sparking discussions on the strengths and limitations of emerging technologies.
The Kaangtanan was facilitated by Andrelyn Bello, Director for Administration and Finance, who emphasized that artificial intelligence should serve as a tool that enhances — not replaces — human creativity and community values.
This activity aims to promote responsible AI usage not only in academic settings but also in grassroots community engagement, ensuring that technology remains aligned with the organization’s mission of empowering people and strengthening social impact.
HBONI continues to conduct capacity-building activities for its volunteers, equipping them with relevant skills that respond to evolving communication trends while sustaining meaningful connections within the communities they serve.
