A proposed science and technology-driven development project for the remote community of Sitio Madaja in Barangay Buenavista gained the support of Himamaylan City Mayor Raymund Tongson during a meeting with Hope Builders Organization Negros Island, Inc. (HBONI) Project Tikang lead Reymund Titong on Thursday, June 18.
The meeting centered on HBONI’s proposed intervention under the Department of Science and Technology’s (DOST) Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) program, an initiative designed to help address the longstanding needs and development gaps in the upland community.
The project includes components on Sustainable Livelihood and Enterprise Development, Health and Nutrition, Human Resource Development, Disaster Risk Reduction and Environmental Protection, and Renewable Energy.
Tongson welcomed the initiative, saying it would provide much-needed support and opportunities for residents of the hinterland sitio.
The mayor also said the city government is addressing the community’s water supply concerns, particularly those involving the water source and storage tank.
To complement the project, the city government has pledged to provide technical assistance in agriculture, including deploying experts to improve farming practices and productivity once the program is implemented.*
