PAGBASA: May Pag-asa sa Pagbasa initiative successfully conducted its second learning session at Don Remegio M. Limsiaco Elementary School, Brgy. Libacao, Himamaylan City, through the unwavering dedication and commitment of its volunteer teachers. The activity aimed to strengthen the literacy skills of young learners while fostering a fun, engaging, and meaningful learning environment.
The program officially began with an opening prayer led by Maui Jean Gomez, setting a positive and hopeful tone for the day’s activities. This was immediately followed by a lively energizer, where the children enthusiastically participated in dance exercises. The activity not only energized the learners but also encouraged active participation and readiness for the lessons ahead.
One of the highlights of the session was an interactive storytelling activity facilitated by Sophia Gentile. Through captivating storytelling, the learners were encouraged to improve their listening comprehension, develop their imagination, and cultivate a deeper appreciation for reading and literature. The activity also inspired the children to actively engage in discussions and express their thoughts about the story.
The formal lesson proper focused on one of the fundamental concepts of reading—**vowels and consonants**. Volunteer teachers Harold Matutina and Rhaqysha K-zher facilitated the lesson through interactive discussions and engaging learning activities. The learners actively participated as they practiced identifying letter sounds and forming simple words, strengthening their foundational reading and language skills.
In celebration of Father’s Day, the learners also took part in a meaningful letter-writing activity dedicated to their fathers. Through heartfelt messages, the children expressed their love, gratitude, and appreciation for their fathers while enhancing their writing and communication skills. The activity provided an opportunity for the learners to connect literacy with personal expression and family values.
To conclude the session, the volunteers organized an exciting and interactive game that challenged the learners to think critically, solve simple problems, and work collaboratively with their peers. The activity reinforced the lessons discussed throughout the day while promoting teamwork, confidence, and active participation in a joyful learning environment.
