KABANKALAN CITY, Negros Occidental — More than a gathering of student leaders, the three-day CPSU-Wide Leadership Camp opened with a strong emphasis on self-discovery, service, and resilience as participants from the different extension campuses of Central Philippines State University (CPSU) across Negros Occidental convened at the Clemete Sports Complex on June 24, 2026.
Organized by the CPSU Office of Student Services Affairs in partnership with the Federated Supreme Student Government and Future Leaders of the Philippines, the leadership camp carries the theme, “Leading Self, Leading Others, Leading Together.” The activity aims to develop student leaders who are prepared not only to serve within their respective campuses but also to make meaningful contributions beyond the university.
Hope Builders Organization Negros Island Inc. (HBONI) facilitated the camp’s first-day learning sessions, providing participants with practical leadership insights anchored on service, emotional intelligence, and personal growth.
Waren Geronca, HBONI Director for Resource Mobilization, delivered a session on Servant Leadership in Student Governance, emphasizing that genuine leadership begins with a commitment to serve. He discussed the defining qualities of servant leaders, encouraging participants to lead with humility, integrity, empathy, and accountability while putting the welfare of others before personal interests.
Complementing the discussion, Sybel Nobleza, HBONI Director for Programs, facilitated a session on Emotional Intelligence and Leadership Resilience, highlighting the importance of self-awareness, emotional regulation, empathy, and adaptability in navigating the challenges of student leadership. She encouraged participants to embrace their experiences, strengthen their character, and remain resilient amid academic and organizational demands.
The first day of the camp centered on helping student leaders better understand themselves by reflecting on their personal strengths, weaknesses, values, and life stories. Through interactive activities and meaningful conversations, participants were challenged to recognize that effective leadership starts with knowing oneself before leading others.
As the leadership camp continues, participants are expected to deepen their understanding of collaborative leadership, strengthen their capacity to serve their communities, and cultivate the skills needed to become transformative leaders who inspire positive change both inside and outside the university.
