Community members, volunteers, and partner organizations came together on April 27, 2026, for Treevolution 2026, a community-driven environmental initiative held in Barangay Cabacungan, La Castellana, Negros Occidental. The activity demonstrated a collective commitment to environmental protection, sustainable development, and responsible stewardship of natural resources.
The initiative was made possible through the collaborative efforts of Hope Builders Organization Negros Island Inc. (HBONI), Project TUGDO, the Barangay Cabacungan Council, the Barangay Cabacungan Sangguniang Kabataan Council, L.N. Agustin Farm, Provincial Environment Management Office (PEMO), and the 94th Infantry Battalion.
Unlike traditional tree-planting activities that focus solely on placing seedlings in the ground, Treevolution 2026 emphasized the concept of tree growing—a long-term commitment that includes nurturing, monitoring, and caring for seedlings to ensure their survival and healthy development. Participants actively engaged in distributing seedlings, preparing planting areas, and learning proper techniques for establishing and maintaining young trees.
The activity also served as an avenue for environmental education, bringing together farmers, youth leaders, and community stakeholders to promote sustainable practices and responsible land management. Through discussions and hands-on participation, attendees gained a deeper understanding of the role of trees in soil conservation, biodiversity protection, watershed preservation, and climate resilience.
Organizers highlighted that tree growing can also contribute to sustainable livelihoods, particularly through agroforestry systems and the cultivation of fruit-bearing trees that provide long-term economic and environmental benefits to local communities.
Treevolution 2026 underscored the importance of partnership and shared responsibility in addressing environmental challenges. By encouraging continuous care rather than one-time planting efforts, the initiative aims to foster a culture of environmental stewardship and community participation.
